Antique Signature Quilts especially from the 1840s and 50s are my favorite type of quilts to collect, teach, and research. I love sharing my discoveries in trunk shows and classes.
This is one of the really interesting ones from my collection made in 1858 in New York City for a beloved Sunday School teacher and Reverend's wife, Sister Ester McAllister (Willet Street Methodist Episcopal Church). She was clearly absolutely adored by her students who lavished her with heart appliques and wonderful loving sentiments in almost every block.
Hearts, hearts, and more hearts!!! And if you look closely in the block centers you'll see there are hidden hearts as well.
