Day 6 - A Month of Antique Quilts - Starley Quilt Collection

Another favorite is this 1850 Quaker signature quilt from Chester Co. Pennsylvania (right by Philadelphia). The quilt was made for Enoch and Mary Worrall and features extensive family genealogy. Such a piece of true history and it is beautiful too.

Look at this inked drawing of cupid's arrow !

And this is the center block showing ownership. Hexagon center reads: "Enoch and Mary Worrall's Quilt, 1850". The background of the block says " Enoch and Mary's children" and lists each child (both those living and deceased at that time). More blocks featuring other family members and family history while other feature friends, neighbors, fellow Quakers.

Day 16 Red & Green Antique Quilt Festival

Can't share Red and Green without sharing this Red and Green antique signature quilt beauty from the Sandra Starley Collection. It is one of the stars of my Antique Signature Quilt trunk show.

Dated 1850 from Chester Co, Pennsylvania. Quaker family, made for Enoch and Mary Worrall.

Fun fact - it is literally a red, white, and green quilt as there as people with the names of Scarlett, White, and Green on the quilt.

1843 Quaker Star Quilt - Antique Quilt Lessons

Love how the quilt maker used all her fabulous fabrics and didn't get freaked out about running out! And those 2 sashing fabrics aren't even close to being the same.

Lesson: it is only fabric, they'll make more so have FUN!!

Lesson: a thing of beauty is a joy forever

Lesson: make your mark!

Lesson: go big or go home (This is the fantabulous backing fabric - glazed chintz)

Note: this quilt and many others are part of my Sign of the Times, antique signature quilt lecture/trunk show that I just presented at MOKA Quilt Study Group to RAVE reviews. Contact me to schedule it for your group.  *visit their facebook group to read the reviews.

1840s antique signature quilt Part 2 Antique Signature Stamps

See yesterday's post for more about this chimney album quilt from Delaware and Pennsylvania and dated in the 1840s. I also shared different close-ups of the signatures. Part of my popular Sign of the Times, antique signature quilt study lecture or class. An amazing opportunity to see these treasures up close, hands on, in the cloth!

The detailed leaf sashing fabric is stunning!

**The signatures from yesterday were hand drawn  but this block was done with a signature stamp.

And here's the type of signature stamp used at the time - I share several of these in my trunk show.

And here is that very same signature stamp used on the 1840s quilt
