Dresden Carnival Blog Hop and Give Away

I am thrilled to showcase a wonderful new book by my friends and fellow Utah quilters, Marian Gallian and Yvette Jones. The mother/daughter duo have produced an inspiring book giving the traditional Dresden Plate pattern an exciting modern makeover.

The book is chock full of creative ideas and is so much more than just a pattern book. There are detailed pictures with step by step instructions. And a nice bonus: lessons on how to hand applique (regular and reverse) and even a lesson on that all important finishing step of binding.   Another unexpected bonus is a lesson on how to add interesting cut out circle details which could be added to any quilt. Lemonade and Lace has circle cutouts in the Dresden blades and the scalloped corners. So fresh and charming.

The quilts are shown in several inspiring colorways and staged in lovely settings. And whether you are just beginning to quilt or are an expert quilter, you will find the perfect project to spark your interest.

I was especially captivated by the wonderful movement in Summer Breeze and the creative new technique used to create the swirling flowers.  Yes, those are still Dresden blades but the movement is created by careful applique and neighboring blades sharing colors. As a AQS certified quilt appraiser and antique quilt collector, I love updating traditional patterns as well as seeing how others are inspired by antique and vintage quilts too. And I think quilters from the 1930s would get a kick out of seeing these new quilts.

Thank you to Marian, Yvette, and C&T for allowing me to give away a copy of Dresden Carnival to one of my readers. (U.S. winner will receive a printed copy and an International winner will receive a digital copy.) For a chance to win, please leave a comment and tell us the name of your favorie traditional quilt block. I'll choose a winner on Saturday, April 30, at 10 p.m. mountain time. Be sure that you are not a no-reply blogger or leave you email address in your comment.

Now hop on over to the other particapting blogs to see more of this great book and for more chances to win a copy of your own.
