Maryland Hickory Reel - A Month of Red & Green Antique Quilt - Day 3

This Hickory or Oak Leaf Reel Quilt is such an elegant example of the mid-1800s Red and Green Quilts. Starley Collection. Available to come to your guild, show, shop, or quilt study group.
The swag and tassel border really frames the quilt beautifully and I like how the lower left corner is a bit wonky. It has some interesting quilting as well. Yes, that is a pair of serving spoons below the swag and scissors above it.

Christmas Bells -Day 1 of 31 Days of Blogging

This is the FOURTH year that I'm joining in on Cheryl Sleboda aka Mupppin 31 days of blogging challenge.  And I've also been blogging every day since last year's challenge! Yes - 364 days straight. I think I may have to scale back next year but not yet!

This month I'm going to share all red and green antique quilts - I hope I have enough. The first one is a Caesar's Crown top that is very Christmasy to me. I love the secondary design that reads as a cross or bells.

Here's a close-up. 1860s/70s from Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania.

And more of the quilt.

Another wonderful antique Rolling Stone Quilt. Color placement is rearranged in this setting to create a different look from the standard RS. And look at the fun border! C. 1850, Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Typical Pennsylvania German colors of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Look at this delightful signature block with a bird inking ❤

Funky Eagles - Antique Eagle Quilts Separated at Birth?

I can't hide my love for bird and eagle quilts: the wild, and funky, and folky, the better!

Folky eagles all in a row, Starley Collection.
And this one from Sue Cummings' collection is very similar although flying straight and framed with a graphic border.

And here's my super folky eagles or peace doves?
And the twin from the International Quilt Study Center

Fabric Couples - Antique Novelty Print Quilt

More from yesterday's 1880s Hexagon Medallion with all the wonderful novelty fabric.
Charming couple in separate hexagons. Would love to see a piece of the original fabric.

Here's the female companion. Next to a sad bird that didn't do well in the fussy cutting.

And here's another couple.

1876 Centennial FAbrics -Antique Quilt

Details from my 1880s Hexagon Medallion quilt that includes to 1876 US Centennial fabrics. 1st  is the 13 colony stripe dated 1776-1876 with Liberty Bell. If it looks familiar - you probably have seen the reproduction from a few years ago.

The other Centennial print is this flag pattern. It was also reproduced.

1908 Sampler - Quilt Along???

I shared this sampler earlier this year and posed the possibility of doing a quilt along. I've never done one before but I'm considering it again.
I'm also thinking about doing it in a smaller, perhaps 1/2 size. What do you all think?

There are 36 blocks so would need to do multiples each month (cause I don't think anyone wants to take 3 years). 2 a month would be 18 months and 3 a month would be a year.

Hmmm, maybe we could start on January 13, 2019 (111 years later).
