Antique Trapunto Quilt Antique Stars

Carpenter Star variation with AMAZING trapunto quilt from the 1840s. Part of the Starley Antique Collection - Antique Stars trunk show.

It has a variety of quilting designs including this unusual 5 pointed "Texas" star set in a trapunto wreath.

Absolutely adore the 5 pointed star with circular feather frame. And come in closer, closer, closer ... look at the intense background stippling. This maker LOVED to quilt. **Be sure to click on the photos to enlarge and see the amazing quilting.

Antique Alphabet Quilt

Isn't this a wonderful pieced alphabet quilt? From the Esprit Collection. Love the house and what I think is a date of 1914 and a sideways & (or maybe a duck)?

The patterns are from the Ladies Art Company pattern catalog from about 1900.

Because 26 letters don't lend themselves to even straight rows, extra something needed to be added. In my quilt above 4 extra blocks.  Quite often these alphabet quilts are dated like mine.

Antique Sampler Quilt Dated 1908 Quilt Along?

Always wanted a true pattern sampler which were most often seen around the turn of the 20th century aka 1900. This one is dated 1908 and is a top which is great -so much better for hauling around to trunk shows. Maybe we should do a quilt-along?

Love the giant uneven churn dash/ monkey wrench block

Look at the wonderful wash day blue/cadet blue and neon print flotal drunkards path variation

And speaking of trunk shows ... here's the quilt at its debut show last summer in Michigan. Thanks Lynn Herrema Anderson for the pictures.

Antique Rising Sun - variation of Lone Star or Bethlehem Star pattern- Starley Quilt Collection

Some of the wonderful fabrics

Cheater Cloth - Antique Little Red Riding Hood fabric

Do you spy Little Red Riding Hood in this charming quilt in my collection?

Did I mention that I love cheater cloth, aka faux patchwork, preprinted patchwork. Here's a special one featuring Little Red Riding Hood and that pesky wolf. Circa 1885. Starley Collection.
So to clarify - though it looks like there is piecing around Little Red that pattern is all printed ink not sewn.

Here is the fabric in the red/brown colorway in a wholecloth quilt in my collection.

Dated 1836 Antique Nine Patch Quilt

I find it very hard to resist early quilts that are dated (one of the reasons I love signature quilts). Here's my earliest dated quilt and it has the owner's/maker's name: Sarah P. Southerland, 1836. The stitching is teeny cross-stitch - click on photo to enlarge and see the stitching.

There is only one name so it is not a "signature quilt" though it could be called a signed quilt. The pattern is uneven 9 patch with blocks set on point. Part of the Starley Collection.
