I find it very hard to resist early quilts that are dated (one of the reasons I love signature quilts). Here's my earliest dated quilt and it has the owner's/maker's name: Sarah P. Southerland, 1836. The stitching is teeny cross-stitch - click on photo to enlarge and see the stitching.
There is only one name so it is not a "signature quilt" though it could be called a signed quilt. The pattern is uneven 9 patch with blocks set on point. Part of the Starley Collection.
Monday- Flimsies

I have been stitching all morning and
half the afternoon.
It is finally a Flimsy, whew!
The wind was very blustery.
Not an easy job to get a good picture ...
