One of the wonderful benefits of attending the Annual seminar of the American Quilt Study Group is getting special access to amazing quilt treasures. We saw many at the Newark NJ Museum. You are most welcome. I really don't think the papers would have been left in - they'd be horrible to quilt through. And yes, they'd have removed the basting stitches.
