P is for Pennsylvania Patchwork Pillowcase

P is for Pieced Pillowcases from Pennsylvania

This case is circa 1876 and has both faux/simulated patchwork and regular pieceing.

 Center star section is faux patchwork aka cheater cloth and the border squares are pieced.

More piecing on the back. These patchwork and applique pillowcases are a uniquely Pennsylvania phenomenon.

N is for the ever popular Nine-Patch block. Today I'm sharing two early Nine-Patch quilts from the Starley Collection. Both are from the 1830s.

The first example is a Double Nine-Patch.

K is for Kite - Antique Quilt

K is for Kite block (it is also for Kansas, Rocky Road to Kansas, that is :) This X block is called Kite.

I is for the fabric of kings. The natural and very strong, stable dye - Indigo.

Today's stop on the alphabet journey is H - Half-square triangles. Hosts of half squares in this 1880s quilt.
A horse novelty print.

G is for Goose in the Pond quilt - Antique Quilt

I'm having fun each day figuring out what quilt in my collection matches the alphabet prompt of the day. Goose in the Pond is today's match. 

Still one of my favorite blocks and I especially love this one with the sawteeth 'coping strips' used to make the block fit with its friends.

F is for French Star - Antique and Vintage French Star Quilts

I thought about sharing feathered friends (bird quilts) but remembered my French Star quilt collection which is perfect for this jaunt through the alphabet. French Star is another of my very favorite pattern and I share several in my Patterns Through Time trunk show. It is an uncommon pattern.
