I love to find dated quilts and this one is also signed in teeny cross-stitch. Sarah P. Southerland, 1836. I haven't been able to track her down yet. Part of the Nine Patch section of my Patterns Through Time trunk show.
Here's the back so you can see the quilting. Generally quilting from this time period is very simple geometric lines (like seen here).

More Nine Patch Fun - Antique Quilt
Here's another fun 9 Patch quilt top. Enjoy
Another block with a 4 Patch center.
And the back of another block - the blue is Indigo and it was vat dyed which is why it is so dark on both sides.

Even More 9 Patch Fun - Antique Quilts
Here's another block (Dolly Madison Star) that is designed in a 9 patch format and also has a nine patch in the center block. Isn't it interesting to see how different each of the four blocks look with the different color placement!
And here's my antique reproduction, Wonky Cheddar Stars. They are also pieced in a 9 patch format.

More 9 Patch Quilts - Antique Quilt
Nine Patch is also a general category of quilt construction - like this Goose in the Pond block which is composed of 9 sections/segments which just happen to include 9 Patch elements. And this particular quilt also has 9 Patch blocks used as corner stones in the sashing !
And many stars are composed of 9 sections. like this one. It is on point so tilt your head to see the construction ;)

More Antique Nine Patch Quilts
Today's Nine Patch Quilt is actually faux patchwork, preprinted patchwork, aka cheater cloth from about 1840. Cheater cloth is not a new thing. And doesn't the fabric look like modern with the animal prints.
More of the same preprinted patchwork
And my favorite part of the fabric is this potted rose!
