Antique Reel Quilts
Reel quilts are another pattern I showcase in my Patterns Through Time trunk show - here are 3 examples from my collection.
Reel quilt with swag/tassel border from Maryland, circa 1850. Great secondary design created by placing blocks on point without sashing.
Early Reel quilt, 1830s, again with interesting swag border, likely Eastern U.S. with unusual stripe used as the background.
Oak Reel circa 1850 with the "potholder" block reproduction, I made for Pam Weeks.

Folky Funky Eagles - Antique Quilt
A friend's posting on Instagram of a twin block to my Folky Eagles got me looking for a post of my quilt. I realized I'd never shared mine on this blog. So here is my very folky Eagle quilt (it may really be doves of peace)? Formerly in the McCarl Quilt Collection in Pennsylvania.
Here's the twin of mine that is in the International Quilt Study Center Museum in Nebraska. Soooo very similar
And here is the twin antique block that just came across my instagram feed tonight from mjinmichigan! She found the single block. It is a quarter of the four eagle block above. It is a small world after all!
Likely the maker wanted a block to document/pattern one of the original quilts above.

Caesar's Crown - Antique Quilt
Yes, I do have a great fondness for Caesar's Crown pattern or what people are now calling the "Brimfield Block". It is a very old, traditional pattern. It is usually set together to create a secondary bell pattern but this maker added an unusual sashing that perfectly frames the blocks. Enjoy.

1890 Novelty Medallion - Antique Quilt
Here are some details of the wonderful novelty fabrics in yesterday's medallion quilt. Who can resist cupid bearing flowers, dogs, Red Riding Hood cheater, peacock feathers, squirrel, and more little dogs. **Be sure to click on photo to enlarge & see details.
And more from that section

1890 Medallion Quilt - Novelty Prints
Just looking through ebay auction pictures of my 1890 Novelty quilt top with fabulous fabrics like cupids and courting couples and hunting scenes with quail and rabbits. Red Riding Hood cheater prints and so much more.
I hadn't noticed until reviewing these old auction pictures that the maker had carefully arranged the pieces into a medallion setting!

Caesars Crown - Antique Quilts
Love the Caesar's Crown pattern, here are a few from my collection. I share these in my Patterns Through Time Trunk show.
I really like the secondary design that it created when this block pattern is joined without sashing. See the cross or bells?

Oh My Stars!! Antique Signature Quilt
Such a sparkly, glowing star quilt! Great condition and it is a signature quilt from Pennsylvania! And it is related to several other quilts that I or friends own. What more can you ask for? And it was a great deal to boot. Part of my Sign of the Times, Antique Quilt trunk show.
