The ties which weren't horrible in the first block keep getting scarier and scarier

An amazingly beautiful tree block found in a kind of scary quilt. I need to rescue it.

Interesting. Is it common (or at least not UNcommon) to find such detailed piecing that was tied rather than hand quilted.
